Permaculture with Paul Wheaton

Over the years Paul Wheaton has written some excellent articles about hugelkultur, raising chickens, rocket mass heaters and stoves, lawn care, earth sheltered housing, and much more. They are all worth reading. His articles can be found here: http://www.richsoil.com/

My method of paddock shifting my chickens with a moveable coop and electronet fencing originated from Paul’s article on raising chickens. For anyone raising chickens, it is a must read. It might make you mad, but he makes an excellent case for not using the most common method of raising chickens with a stationary coop and run. Below are pictures of what my flock did to a lush area of my property in one week. First the before picture, then the after. This illustrates his point.

Paul also has a nice collection of You Tube videos, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/user/paulwheaton12/featured

There are tons of videos, and I like them all, but my favorite is the Hugelkultur video below.

Last year, I built a bee shelter for my Warre beehives. I have to give credit to Paul Wheaton and Jacqueline Freeman for the podcast that they created called “Reverence for Bees,” which can be found here: http://www.permies.com/t/34544/permaculture-podcast/Podcast-Reverence-Bees-part

Below is a picture of the shelter and hives I installed that was inspired by the above podcast.

One of the biggest gifts to the permaculture world that Paul Wheaton has given us is the forum at Permies.com. It’s the best permaculture and homesteading forum in the world in my opinion. If you ever want to connect with permaculture people, this is the place to be, where they talk about permaculture and homesteading all the time.

So, if you’re into permaculture like me, you might want to sign up for their dailyish e-mail which can be done here: http://www.richsoil.com/email.jsp

I’ve been a subscriber for many years, and it is always jam packed with excellent information.

Thank you to Paul Wheaton and Cassie Langstraat for allowing me to share your information on my site and helping me promote the original permaculture children’s book, Farmer Phil’s Permaculture.
